We are supporting a major federal government organisation undertaking a multi‑year cloud modernisation program. This initiative is uplifting cloud capability, strengthening security, integrating GovAI platforms, and modernising infrastructure to support the agency’s long‑term digital strategy.
You’ll join a collaborative cloud engineering and architecture function on a long-term engagement until 30 June 2026, with 6‑month extensions available.
Flexible hybrid work arrangements are available across ACT, QLD, NSW, VIC, WA, TAS and SA.
To be considered, you must be an Australian Citizen and able to obtain Baseline clearance.
Your new role
As a Cloud Engineer (APS6 equivalent), you will be a hands‑on technical specialist responsible for designing, deploying and optimising secure, scalable cloud environments. You will work closely with senior engineering leaders to uplift cloud maturity, enhance platform resilience and support emerging capabilities such as AI‑enabled services.
You’ll support the integration of government‑wide GovAI solutions, optimise existing multi‑cloud infrastructure, and contribute to the delivery of the organisation’s Cloud Roadmap. This role blends technical depth with strong stakeholder engagement and offers the chance to influence strategic cloud decisions at scale.
What you'll need to succeed
Core skills & experience- Demonstrated experience in cloud engineering across complex enterprise or government environments.
- Proficiency in AWS, Azure or GCP, with hands‑on experience in core cloud services, networking, IAM and security controls.
- Strong understanding of cloud security frameworks, including alignment to ISM and PSPF.
- Experience working in agile delivery environments.
- Skilled in automation, scripting and orchestration tools that drive operational efficiency.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving capability, including working under pressure.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and advise technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Ability to support and mentor colleagues in cloud platforms and best practices.
Key responsibilities
- Design, build and maintain secure, resilient cloud‑based infrastructure across multiple platforms.
- Ensure compliance with Australian Government security standards, architectural guidelines and operational frameworks.
- Monitor and optimise cloud environments for performance, uptime and cost effectiveness.
- Provide specialist advice on cloud adoption, platform improvements and technology direction.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to deliver solutions aligned to organisational strategy.
- Support integration of GovAI solutions with existing cloud ecosystems.
- Manage vendor relationships and contribute to strategic planning for cloud technology investments.
- Assist in maturing the organisation’s Cloud Roadmap and uplift cloud engineering capability.
