Since 1959, the National Trust has championed the conservation and celebration of Western Australia’s rich cultural and natural heritage. As a statutory body, our purpose is to engage and inspire the community to value, protect and enjoy our unique heritage—now and for generations to come.

Your new role

Reporting to the Council, the Chief Executive Officer will provide visionary and strategic leadership to ensure the organisation thrives as a trusted steward of heritage places, collections, and landscapes, and as a leader in education and community engagement.

  • Lead delivery of the Strategic and Corporate Business Plans.
  • Champion heritage values and foster broad stakeholder and community engagement.
  • Provide guidance and advice to Council with respect, inclusivity, and transparency.
  • Inspire and empower a skilled leadership team across corporate services, asset management, and marketing and community services.
  • Ensure robust governance, financial sustainability, risk management, and compliance.
  • Promote a culture of innovation, collaboration, and service excellence across staff and volunteers.
  • Oversee acquisition, allocation of resources, and organisational compliance.
  • Represent the National Trust nationally through the Australian Council of National Trusts.
  • Perth-based role with stakeholder engagement across Western Australia.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Proven senior leadership experience in organisations of comparable scale and complexity.
  • Strong financial management, commercial acumen, and strategic planning capability.
  • Collaborative leadership style with excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience in complex regulated environments—ideally heritage, conservation, education, cultural or not-for-profit sectors.
  • Track record of driving change, innovation, and measurable outcomes.
Relevant tertiary qualifications in Architecture, Heritage, Conservation, Education, Social Sciences, Business, Management or related disciplines.
