CASUAL VISITOR CENTRE OFFICER

We are seeking an enthusiastic and customer-focused Casual Visitor Centre Officer to join the team at one of Tasmania’s most significant heritage and tourism destinations.
This is a public-facing role suited to someone who enjoys engaging with visitors, sharing stories of place and history, and contributing to the smooth day-to-day operations of a busy visitor centre. Casual hours will be offered on an as-needed basis, including weekends and peak tourism periods.


Your new role

Working as part of a small, dedicated team, you will play a key role in delivering a welcoming and informative visitor experience. You will support front-of-house operations while also assisting with administrative and curatorial tasks that help bring the site’s stories to life.

Key responsibilities
  • Providing high-quality customer service to visitors, groups and tour operators
  • Engaging confidently with the public and responding to enquiries in person, via phone and email
  • Ticketing, point-of-sale transactions and general visitor centre administration
  • Assisting with basic curatorial duties, including exhibition upkeep and collection support
  • Supporting events, tours and special activities as required
  • Ensuring the visitor centre is presented to a high standard at all times

What you'll need to succeed

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A genuine passion for customer service and visitor engagement
  • Strong administrative skills and attention to detail
  • An interest in history, heritage, museums or cultural tourism (desirable)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Flexibility to work casual hours, including weekends
  • A valid RWVP (employment)
