Budget Analyst

Your new role

  • Developing, implementing, monitoring and reviewing budget allocation models and processes in line with endorsed strategies

  • Undertaking detailed cost, resource and scenario modelling, trend analysis and performance reporting

  • Managing a portfolio of internal stakeholders, providing expert advice on budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis and resource planning

  • Coordinating and contributing to annual budget submissions, mid‑year reviews, budget statements and estimates processes

  • Preparing and presenting periodic and ad hoc financial and management reports to senior leaders and government stakeholders

  • Undertaking monthly variance analysis, identifying financial risks and implementing mitigation strategies

  • Maintaining robust financial control frameworks in compliance with legislative and policy requirements

What you'll need to succeed

  • Demonstrated experience in a financial environment, including budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling and management reporting

  • Proven ability to extract, analyse and interpret complex financial and statistical datasets, with advanced spreadsheet and data visualisation skills

  • Highly developed analytical, conceptual and problem‑solving skills, with a proactive and solutions‑focused approach

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage, advise and negotiate with stakeholders at all levels.

  • Excellent planning, time management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities

  • A sound understanding of public sector financial legislation, including financial management acts, regulations and treasurer’s instructions

  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
