Your new role
We’re seeking a highly capable BI Developer & Documenter to join the team on a short-term contract (8 weeks) to support a critical legacy system review and documentation project. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys diving deep into SQL, dissecting BusinessObjects universes, and translating complex logic into clear, structured documentation.
You’ll work closely with both technical and reporting teams to reverse-engineer existing logic, document pre-defined filters and measures, and help design a future-ready SQL-based environment. Your work will directly support the transition of key reporting logic from BusinessObjects to SQL Server.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and document BusinessObjects WebIntelligence universes, including:
- Pre-defined filters
- Measures
- Universe contexts and compatibility
- Analyse and interpret SQL scripts and statements
- Collaborate with technical and reporting teams to understand legacy logic
- Document SQL logic and recommend how to replicate it in SQL Server
- Assist in designing flags and filters in the new environment
- Provide recommendations for improving data accessibility and usability
What you'll need to succeed
Mandatory:
- Candidates should have full working rights in Australia (No sponsorship available).- Please do not apply if you do not have full working rights
- Candidates should be in Adelaide - Candidates outside of Adelaide will not be considered.
- Strong SQL skills – ability to read, write, and optimise queries (5+ years)
- Proven experience with BusinessObjects universes and WebIntelligence (5+ years)
- Ability to document technical logic clearly and thoroughly
- Understanding of how BO translates WebI queries into SQL
- Experience with universe overloads and compatibility contexts
- Familiarity with tabular and dimensional data models
- Strong analytical mindset – enjoys solving complex data puzzles
Desirable
- Experience with BusinessObjects Business Objectives Console
- Experience using Power BI and Excel as presentation tools
