Your new role
This role is open to APS6 candidates or high-performing APS5 candidates ready for their next step. As a WHS Officer, you will be responsible for implementing, coordinating, and maintaining a comprehensive Work Health and Safety Management System. You will provide expert WHS advice, support compliance with legislation and internal policies, and play a key role in training, incident investigation, and risk mitigation. This is a dynamic role with the potential for international travel, offering variety and challenge for a motivated and experienced WHS professional.
Key responsibilities include:
Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the department’s WHS Management System.
Provide expert advice and guidance on WHS matters to staff and senior stakeholders.
Deliver WHS training and awareness programs across the organisation.
Ensure timely and thorough investigation of incidents and hazards.
Monitor compliance with WHS legislation, policies, and procedures.
Support risk assessments and contribute to the development of safety strategies.
Maintain accurate WHS records and contribute to reporting and audit processes.
What you'll need to succeed
Minimum current Baseline Security clearance, NV1 clearance preferred.
Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, regulations, policies and procedures across workplace health and safety matters.
Demonstrated experience in WHS and risk management, ideally within the APS or a similar regulatory environment.
Proven ability to interpret and apply legislation and guidelines to real-world scenarios.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a client-focused approach.
Strong negotiation, influencing, and conflict resolution skills.
Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across all levels of an organisation.
A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement.
