Your new role

Are you looking for a challenging and rewarding role in the public sector? Do you have experience and skills in budgeting, analysis and stakeholder engagement? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you!

We are looking for a motivated and professional External Budgets officer to join this high-performing team. You will be responsible for managing the development and coordination of external budget estimates, briefings, submissions and documents. You will also provide strategic and technical advice on complex and sensitive matters relating to the Australian Government Resource Management Framework and the Budget Process Operational Rules. You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely information and advice. Your day-to-day duties will vary. However, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage the development and maintenance of external budget estimates within the Central Budget Management System (CBMS) and General Estimates Update System (GEUS and BARS on TM1 platform)
  • Manage and maintain supporting worksheets for external budgets at each budget milestone
  • Manage the coordination of budget processes and documentation
  • Review and advise on improvements to policies and procedures to support the various models and processes

What you'll need to succeed

Your previous roles would have prepared you for this exciting role, leaving you with the following skills or experience:

  • Demonstrated experience and exposure to a wide range of external budgeting and reporting matters and responsibilities, including an understanding of the Commonwealth resource management framework and the Budget and Cabinet processes
  • Ability to supervise and manage staff, including understanding of relevant workplace legislation, policies and procedures and the ability to apply and communicate this knowledge
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft suite of programs, particularly Excel and Word
  • Problem-solving and ability to interpret complex materials and communicate key messages across a range of stakeholders
  • Commitment to a culture of teamwork, excellence and continuous improvement. Focus on providing good customer service
