Your new role
As an accountant in Queensland Health, you will be responsible for:
- Supporting the annual budgeting process, including budget preparation, financial modelling, forecasting and ongoing monitoring
- Assisting with statutory financial reporting, including the preparation of annual financial statements, reports, work papers and variance analysis in line with legislative and accounting requirements.
- Maintaining the accrual accounting framework through month‑end journals, reconciliations and ledger management
- Ensuring the integrity and accuracy of financial information through compliance testing, data analysis and internal control monitoring
- Coordinating treasury and insurance management activities, including cash forecasting and insurance claims processes
- Providing high-quality financial analysis, advice and reporting to senior management and key stakeholders
- Building productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including auditors and operational managers
- Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives, policy development, and capability building through coaching and knowledge sharing
What you'll need to succeed
- Proven experience within a financial accounting, statutory reporting or management accounting function, ideally within a large and complex organisation
- Comprehensive knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards, relevant legislation, and contemporary financial management practices and policies
- Demonstrated capability in using financial information systems to analyse and report data, provide advice, and develop or improve financial processes and procedures
- Strong initiative and accountability, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver outcomes within agreed timeframes and quality expectations
- Ability to work effectively as part of a high‑performing team, respond positively to change, and take responsibility for a defined portfolio of work
- Proven ability to build and maintain productive working relationships with a broad range of stakeholders by understanding their needs and tailoring engagement accordingly
- Highly developed interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to interpret standards and complex information to provide clear, accurate and practical advice
