Your New Role
As Senior Safety Advisor – WHS and Safety Systems and Reporting, you’ll lead safety assurance for a state government organisation’s Rail department. Reporting to the Safety Director, you’ll develop, implement, and maintain WHS and safety systems and reporting processes to support safe project delivery.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with safety legislation and standards
- Implementing Safety Assurance programs and identifying trends for improvement
- Overseeing safety assurance activities by contractors and project teams
- Preparing reports for the leadership team
- Leading risk assessments, safety observations, and mitigation planning
- Supporting other safety-related tasks as directed
What You’ll Need to Succeed
To thrive in this role, you’ll bring a mix of experience, insight, technical ability, and communication skills.
Essential qualifications and experience:
- Tertiary qualification in Health and Safety, Business, or related field
- 5+ years’ experience on large construction, rail, or major infrastructure projects
Skills and capabilities:
- Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, codes, and AS/ISO standards
- Internal Auditor and ICAM Lead Investigator qualifications (preferred)
- Experience with regulatory bodies such as ONRSR and OFSC
- Analytical skills to identify trends and manage safety risks
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Ability to interpret, implement and remain up to date on industry and legislative changes
