A well-established local government is seeking an experienced and strategic leader to join its Corporate Services team as a Manager of Governance and Strategy.
This is a senior leadership position responsible for overseeing governance, strategic planning, risk management, procurement, compliance, and council support functions. The role plays a key part in driving organisational performance, supporting informed decision-making, and ensuring the effective delivery of services that contribute to long-term community outcomes.
Your new role
Reporting to the Director Corporate Services, you will provide strategic advice to executive leadership, lead a multidisciplinary team, and contribute to the broader strategic direction of the organisation. You will be responsible for developing and implementing governance frameworks, strategic initiatives, operational improvements, and risk management practices while ensuring compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading governance, strategy, risk, procurement, compliance, and council support functions.
- Providing high-level strategic advice to senior leaders and elected members.
- Developing and reviewing organisational strategies, policies, and plans.
- Driving continuous improvement and organisational performance initiatives.
- Managing operational budgets, resources, and key projects.
- Building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Leading and developing high-performing teams and fostering a positive workplace culture.
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Extensive experience in governance, strategy, compliance, risk management, or a related discipline.
- Strong strategic and analytical thinking capabilities.
- Proven leadership experience managing teams, projects, and organisational initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and provide trusted advice at an executive level.
- Experience developing and implementing policies, frameworks, and improvement programs.
- Strong financial management, budgeting, and resource planning skills.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or significant senior management experience. Local government experience will be highly regarded but is not essential.
