Hays are partnered with a large state government department, providing transport services across WA. We are seeking an experienced Traffic Management Officer for an initial 6-month temporary contract, with the likelihood to become a rolling agreement.
Your new role
The Traffic Management Officer provides specialist technical advice and guidance on traffic management to ensure construction and maintenance works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in compliance with relevant standards. The role focusses on maximising road safety for workers and the public while minimising congestion and disruption across the road network. This includes the development, assessment, and implementation of effective traffic guidance schemes supported by comprehensive traffic volume analysis to determine optimal working hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide traffic management advice to internal staff, contractors, and project stakeholders to support the safe and efficient delivery of works.
- Develop, review, and recommend traffic guidance and traffic management schemes that comply with legislative requirements, Australian Standards, and relevant road authority guidelines.
- Conduct traffic volume and flow analyses to assess network impacts and identify the most suitable working hours and staging arrangements.
- Assess site conditions and operational constraints to ensure traffic management solutions are practical, safe, and minimise road-user delay.
- Support the planning and coordination of traffic management arrangements for works across live road networks.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of implemented traffic management schemes and recommend improvements where required.
- Liaise with project managers, field staff, emergency services, and other stakeholders to resolve traffic-related issues.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation, reports, and records related to traffic management planning and implementation.
Ensure all advice and recommendations are aligned with road safety principles and organisational policies and procedures
What you'll need to succeed
- Possession of a current Advanced Worksite Traffic Management (AWTM) accreditation.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to work under pressure and/or independently.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide clear technical advice to a range of stakeholders.
- A Diploma in Engineering or other relevant discipline is desirable.
- Experience using AutoCAD for the preparation or review of traffic management or guidance plans is desirable.
