Your new role
As the Manager, Water Sciences, you will lead a team responsible for water and wastewater scientific monitoring, modelling, assessments, and reporting across Victoria. You will oversee the delivery of high-quality scientific and applied engineering research, advice, and services to support regulatory decision-making, aligned with organisational strategic priorities. This is a senior leadership role suited to an experienced scientist looking to contribute to a contemporary and evolving regulatory environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Water Sciences Unit, ensuring high standards of performance, accountability, and staff development.
- Contribute to the operational strategy and direction of the Environmental Sciences function, supporting organisational priorities and change initiatives.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships to position the organisation as a trusted authority in environmental and public health protection.
- Oversee water monitoring programs and provide expert scientific and engineering advice to inform regulatory decisions.
- Communicate scientific and technical information to diverse audiences and lead the preparation of guidelines and publications.
- Prioritise research and development programs for water sciences and engineering applications.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, and legislative requirements.
- Represent the organisation positively in community and stakeholder engagement activities.
What you'll need to succeed
You are an experienced leader in applied environmental science or engineering, with a strong background in water sciences. You have a proven track record of leading teams through change, driving high performance, and fostering a positive organisational culture. You bring expertise in environmental risk assessment, water pollution, and applying legislative frameworks to achieve effective outcomes. Your leadership style is collaborative, innovative, and outcome-focused.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- Tertiary and/or postgraduate qualifications in applied science, environmental engineering, or a related discipline (preferably with a freshwater or marine focus).
- Demonstrated senior leadership experience managing a business unit through change.
- Proven expertise in environmental risk assessment and water pollution.
