Financial Accountant

Join a community‑focused local council in a hands on financial accounting role.

Your new company

My client is a well established local council with a strong focus on community, governance, and sustainable service delivery. With a stable and experienced finance team, this council offers an environment where technical accounting skills are valued, work is meaningful, and work life balance is genuinely respected.

Your new role

Reporting into a senior finance leader, you’ll take ownership of core financial accounting activities and play a key role in statutory reporting and compliance. This is a hands on role suited to someone who values accuracy, clean processes, and enjoys working within a structured public sector environment.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Monthly and annual financial reporting
  • Balance sheet and general ledger reconciliations
  • Budget support and variance analysis
  • Ensuring compliance with accounting standards and local government requirements
  • Contributing to process improvement and providing financial insights to stakeholders

What you'll need to succeed

You’ll be a qualified or near qualified Accountant (CA / CPA) with a strong grounding in financial accounting and a genuine interest in working within a structured, compliance focused environment. You’ll bring a proactive mindset, high attention to detail, and the ability to build productive working relationships across the organisation, supporting both finance and non finance stakeholders with confidence.
To be successful in this role, you’ll bring:
  • CA or CPA qualification (or working towards)
  • Solid experience in financial accounting and reporting
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and compliance
  • Ability to communicate financial information clearly and effectively
  • A collaborative approach and willingness to contribute to continuous improvement
  • Experience in local government or the public sector (Desired, but not essential)

What you'll get in return

In return, you’ll join a values driven local council that genuinely prioritises stability, purpose, and work life balance. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to meaningful community outcomes while working in a supportive and collaborative finance team with experienced leadership. You’ll benefit from flexible working arrangements, a structured and well‑governed environment, and the confidence that comes with working in a stable public sector organisation that values its people and invests in their wellbeing and development.
