Lead complex, high-risk case management across ER, WHS and injury management

The team is seeking an experienced EL1 to provide senior HR support, stabilise workloads and uplift capability across people support, workplace relations and WHS functions.

Your new role

This is a hands-on EL1 role in a busy HR team, with a strong focus on case management.

You’ll be responsible for managing complex employee relations, performance and WHS matters, as well as injury management and return-to-work cases. The role works closely with senior leaders, providing practical advice on how to handle sensitive situations and manage risk. You’ll also help improve how the team operates, lifting consistency, supporting junior staff and contributing to better processes and guidance.


Key responsibilities:

  • Managing complex and sensitive employee relations, performance and misconduct matters
  • Providing high-level advice on workplace relations, WHS and employment legislation
  • Leading injury management and rehabilitation, including return-to-work programmes
  • Supporting early intervention strategies to minimise psychosocial and physical risk
  • Coaching and mentoring HR team members to build capability and consistency
  • Partnering with senior leaders to navigate complex people issues and case strategies
  • Contributing to the development of policies, processes and best practice frameworks
  • Monitoring workforce risks and trends to inform proactive HR strategies

This is a hands-on leadership role with a strong focus on case management, stakeholder engagement and continuous improvement.

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Extensive experience managing complex employee relations and case management in an APS or similar environment

  • Strong knowledge of WHS, workers’ compensation and employment legislation

  • Proven ability to provide strategic, risk-based HR advice to senior stakeholders

  • Experience in injury management and rehabilitation frameworks

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence outcomes

  • The ability to operate autonomously and exercise sound judgement in sensitive situations

  • Experience coaching or mentoring team members within HR functions

Australian citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance are required.
