Hays is currently recruiting a Statutory Planning Officer for a progressive metropolitan local government authority just north of Perth City. You’ll be part of a collaborative and supportive team, supporting residential development applications. This is a temporary position. However, if you are interested in longer-term roles, this can be possible.
Your new role
As a Statutory Planning Officer, you will play a key role in supporting the planning team by undertaking end-to-end development assessments and helping manage workload during a period of staff leave.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Assessing and determining development applications, ranging from straightforward to moderately complex.
- Interpreting and applying relevant planning legislation, including the Residential Design Codes (R-Codes).
- Preparing reports and recommendations in line with statutory requirements.
- Providing advice to internal stakeholders, applicants, and the wider community.
- Assisting with general statutory planning functions, including counter enquiries where required
This is a contract role running through to 30 June 2026, with the potential for extension depending on budget approval.
What you'll need to succeed
Tertiary qualification in Urban and Regional Planning or a related discipline.
Demonstrated experience in development assessment (statutory planning).
Strong understanding of the WA planning framework, particularly Residential Design Codes (R-Codes).
Previous experience within a local government environment (metro WA highly regarded).
Excellent written communication and report writing skills.
Ability to manage a varied workload and work both independently and within a team.
