Your new company
We are recruiting a Senior API Developer to support a major Federal Government health program as the organisation brings core system integration and API development capability in-house.
This environment has historically relied on external vendors to manage applications and development platforms. The focus of this role is to strengthen internal capability, ownership, and technical continuity across critical healthcare systems.
You will join a delivery-focused team working on secure, high-impact integrations that support national digital health services.
Your new role
You will design, build, and support Java-based REST APIs operating in a complex and regulated integration environment. A key part of your work involves developing healthcare APIs aligned to HL7 FHIR standards, ensuring data integrity, interoperability, privacy, and audit compliance.
You will contribute across the full lifecycle, from development and testing through to deployment and operational support. This includes working with containerised environments, CI/CD pipelines, and modern DevOps practices as the capability matures internally.
Your role will include:
Designing and developing secure, scalable REST APIs using Java
Building and supporting HL7 FHIR-aligned healthcare APIs
Supporting system integrations across clinical and administrative platforms
Implementing OAuth-based authentication and authorisation
Contributing to CI/CD pipelines and containerised deployments
Ensuring strong API testing, logging, monitoring, and audit outcomes
Working closely with internal teams and integration partners as capability transitions in-house
What you'll need to succeed
Strong experience in Java and REST API development
Hands-on HL7 FHIR experience in a healthcare or regulated environment
Solid API testing experience, including unit, REST, and performance testing
Experience with containerisation and CI/CD pipelines
Understanding of DevOps or GitOps practices
Ability to work confidently in complex, standards-driven environments
Australian Citizenship
Experience with Spring Boot, Quarkus, Kubernetes, test automation, or terminology services is viewed favourably.
What you'll get in return
Initial 12-month contract, with extension potential
Hybrid working model, ACT-based
Ability to obtain Baseline security clearance
