Legal Counsel (Commercial/Financial Services)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented Legal Counsel (3–5 years PQE) to join a high-performing in‑house legal team within a global financial services organisation. This role offers broad exposure across commercial, regulatory and project-based work, supporting an innovative business operating across Australia and New Zealand.

This is an excellent position for a commercially minded lawyer who has a keen interest in financial services and enjoys variety, stakeholder engagement, and the chance to work closely in a collaborative legal function.


Your new role

Working within a collegiate APAC legal team, you will provide high-quality, practical legal support to a business delivering market‑leading solutions. The role offers a genuine mix of responsibilities, spanning:

Commercial & Corporate Work
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements
  • Managing contracts with external vendors, including technology, services and operational suppliers
  • Advising internal stakeholders on commercial and contractual risks

Regulatory & Product Support
  • Providing general legal guidance on regulatory issues, including financial services, privacy and consumer law
  • Assisting with the preparation and review of product-related disclosures and documentation
  • Supporting legal requirements connected to the organisation’s trading and investment platforms

Projects & Cross-Border Collaboration
  • Contributing to APAC-wide and global legal projects, including strategic initiatives driven from offshore offices
  • Liaising with international legal teams to ensure consistency and best practice
  • Participating in business-led projects involving technology, product development and operational changes

What you'll need to succeed

Essential
  • 3–5 years’ PAE experience with a current practising certificate
  • Strong grounding in general commercial and corporate law.
  • Excellent drafting, analytical and communication skills
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines and operate autonomously when needed
  • Confidence working with stakeholders across all levels of the business
  • A genuine interest in financial services

Desirable
  • Exposure to financial services
  • Experience advising on privacy, consumer law or advising on corporation act
  • Prior in‑house experience or a secondment (highly regarded)
