Your new role
A unique opportunity exists for an experienced professional with strong foundations in Anthropology, Land Management, and Heritage to play a key leadership role in safeguarding Aboriginal Cultural Heritage. This senior position sits within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment and is responsible for delivering expert advice, strengthening organisational capability, and ensuring legally compliant, culturally sensitive assessment processes.
Reporting to the Manager, the Senior Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Assessment Officer leads complex assessment work, drives continuous improvement efforts, and supports meaningful partnerships with Traditional Owners and a wide range of stakeholders. The role requires deep knowledge of cultural heritage legislation, high-level risk assessment skills, and the ability to engage respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal communities.
This senior role provides leadership across cultural heritage assessment, compliance, and strategic initiatives. You will:
- Oversee the delivery of high-quality, culturally informed assessments across diverse landscapes.
- Provide authoritative advice on the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 and associated regulations.
- Strengthen relationships with Traditional Owners and Registered Aboriginal Parties through genuine, respectful engagement.
- Support policies, programs and procedures that promote self-determination and advance the protection of Aboriginal Cultural Heritage.
- Manage risks, monitor compliance, and contribute to improved organisational systems and frameworks.
What you'll need to succeed
- Tertiary qualifications in Anthropology, Archaeology, Cultural Heritage Management, Land Management, or related discipline.
- Demonstrated expertise in the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 and cultural heritage regulations.
- Experience leading complex Aboriginal cultural heritage assessments.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with Traditional Owners and Registered Aboriginal Parties.
