Grid Connection Engineer

Grid Connection Engineer

Your new company

An established renewable energy developer is seeking a Grid Connection Engineer to support a growing portfolio of utility‑scale generation and storage projects across the NEM. This organisation is expanding rapidly and offers the opportunity to work across the full project lifecycle, from early‑stage development through to commissioning and operations.

Your new role

As the Grid Connection Engineer, you will play a key part in supporting development, engineering, and construction teams with all technical aspects of connecting new renewable assets to the grid. This role requires strong stakeholder engagement with AEMO and Network Service Providers, in-depth knowledge of the NER, and hands‑on experience with power systems modelling tools.
Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake preliminary grid analysis to assess feasible connection locations and identify NEM grid opportunities.
  • Liaise with AEMO, NSPs, consultants and internal engineering teams throughout the grid connection process.
  • Manage PSSE and PSCAD models and coordinate grid connection studies.
  • Provide technical support to asset management, including registration, loss factor analysis and assessing impacts of market rule changes.
  • Deliver design input for grid connection, substation and collector network components.
  • Collaborate with development managers, project directors and operational teams to ensure project milestones are met.
  • Prepare technical tender documentation relating to grid connection for contractors and suppliers.
  • Review power system studies including grid connection assessments, system strength impact assessments, and R&D work.
  • Support EMT and RMS simulations using PSCAD, PSSE and DigSILENT PowerFactory.
  • Contribute to business development activities including tender support, input into financial models, and participation in meetings and conferences.
  • Prepare written material for board papers, investment memos, workshops, and permitting documentation.
  • Maintain technical knowledge and stay up to date with NEM market developments and emerging technologies.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Minimum 2+ years’ experience in grid connection engineering for utility‑scale wind, solar or storage projects.
  • Demonstrated involvement in preparation of R0 and R1 packages; experience with commissioning, hold point testing and R2 phases highly regarded.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering; postgraduate studies desirable.
  • Strong understanding of the NEM, its regulatory framework, and transmission system.
  • Experience navigating AEMO’s connection and registration processes.
  • Ability to assess NEM changes and identify commercial/technical opportunities.
  • Experience in generator performance standards negotiation and commissioning processes.
  • Proficiency with PSSE, PSCAD and/or PowerFactory.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to internal and external stakeholders.

What you'll get in return

  • Opportunity to work across the full project lifecycle on major renewable projects.
  • Exposure to leading‑edge modelling tools and evolving NEM regulations.
  • Collaborative team culture with strong technical capability.
  • Career progression within a rapidly expanding industry sector.
