Their Strategic Landuse Planning team plays a key role in guiding land use, supporting sustainable growth, and enhancing the social, environmental and economic wellbeing of the community.

Your new role

As the Principal Strategic Planner, you will contribute to a high‑performing team responsible for delivering major strategic planning projects and providing expert planning advice. You will support senior leaders, guide and mentor staff, and play an integral role in preparing key planning instruments, masterplans and policy documents.
This role also carries statutory responsibilities, including signing Section 10.7 Planning Certificates and assisting with development assessment functions when required.

Leading the preparation of masterplans, LEPs, DCPs, contribution plans, environmental studies and planning policies
Developing detailed project plans and performance frameworks to deliver strategic initiatives
Mentoring and supporting staff within the team and contributing to branch management
Providing expert planning advice to internal stakeholders, consultants, government agencies and the community
Coordinating and delivering community consultation processes
Preparing high‑quality Council reports, submissions, briefs and policy advice
Assessing planning proposals and providing professional advice on referred Development Applications
Signing and managing the process for Section 10.7 Planning Certificates
Representing the organisation as an expert witness in the Land & Environment Court
Supporting operational planning, budgeting and continuous improvement activities

What you'll need to succeed

Tertiary qualifications in Urban / Regional Planning or related field
Extensive experience in strategic land‑use planning, ideally within local government
Strong project management capabilities and experience leading multidisciplinary teams
High‑level communication skills with experience preparing reports and policy documents
Strong understanding of planning legislation and statutory processes
Proven ability to mentor staff and build team capability
Excellent stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills
Confidence representing the organisation in professional or legal forums
