A forward‑thinking local government authority is seeking an experienced Senior Strategic Planner to join its Strategic Landuse Planning team. The team plays a key role in shaping future growth while protecting environmental values, delivering well considered planning outcomes that support the social, economic and environmental wellbeing of the community.
Your new role
As Senior Strategic Planner, you will contribute to the preparation and delivery of major strategic planning initiatives and statutory planning functions. You will lead the development of environmental planning studies, planning instruments, development control plans and policy documents. A key focus will be supporting the review and update of Development Contributions Plans, including the preparation of infrastructure works schedules and alignment with organisational priorities.
You will also provide expert advice on strategic planning matters, assess rezoning submissions, and prepare high quality reports and planning documentation. The role includes signing Section 10.7 Planning Certificates, supporting development assessment activities and liaising with internal and external stakeholders to ensure integrated and coordinated planning outcomes. Community consultation, project coordination and cross‑team collaboration are essential components of the position.
What you'll need to succeed
• Strong experience in strategic land use planning within a local or state government context
• Sound knowledge of relevant planning legislation, including contributions frameworks and statutory planning processes
• Demonstrated ability to prepare planning studies, planning proposals and policy documents
• Experience assessing planning matters such as rezonings and development applications
• Well developed communication skills with the ability to prepare reports, manage stakeholders and support community engagement activities
• Confidence in delivering advice across multidisciplinary teams and contributing to integrated planning outcomes
