A high profile federal program is seeking an experienced NV1 Cleared EL1 Legislative Officer to support ongoing legislative reform and policy implementation work. You will join a small, collaborative team responsible for delivering complex, high-quality legislative products and related advice.
Your new role
In this role, you will take ownership of legislative drafting tasks, statutory interpretation, and the development of supporting documentation for program outcomes.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Preparing detailed legislative drafting instructions and complex legislative and non-legislative instruments.
• Applying plain English drafting principles to ensure accuracy, clarity, and legal effectiveness.
• Analysing complex policy and legislative frameworks to provide clear, timely and fit-for-purpose advice.
• Contributing to legislative reform activities and preparing associated documentation.
• Working closely with internal stakeholders to gather subject matter insights and explain legal issues in the context of program requirements.
• Managing competing deadlines and shifting priorities within a fast-paced environment.
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful, you will bring:
• A Bachelor of Laws (or equivalent).
• A NV1 Clearance is highly desirable. (Baseline Clearance Minimum)
• Strong experience in legislative drafting, statutory interpretation, and preparing drafting instructions.
• Proven ability to navigate complex and sensitive matters requiring significant analysis and judgement.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical issues into plain English.
• High attention to detail and ability to produce high quality documentation under tight timeframes.
• The capability to work independently with minimal direction while contributing effectively to a small team.
• Ability to rapidly build subject matter understanding.
• Experience in the health or primary care sector is desirable but not essential
