Our State Government Client is seeking an Information Release Officer. This is a pivotal role supporting information governance, privacy, and the release of information to external stakeholders. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced information management or FOI professional to contribute to transparent, ethical, and secure information practices across the organisation.

This department plays a key role in delivering safe, secure and rehabilitative outcomes for the community. Within Corporate Services, the Knowledge, Information & Technology division oversees information governance, Freedom of Information (FOI), and responses to legal actions in partnership with the State Solicitor’s Office and RiskCover.

You will join the Knowledge Management Branch — a collaborative, solutions‑focused team committed to best practice information release and compliance with legislative requirements.

Your new role

As an Information Release Officer, you will manage and respond to applications for confidential departmental information in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act 1992 and related legislation.
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Receiving, assessing and actioning FOI and information release applications.
  • Sourcing, analysing and preparing documents for release within legislative and departmental frameworks.
  • Providing clear advice to internal stakeholders, external agencies and members of the public.
  • Ensuring secure handling, storage and confidentiality of all documents under your control.
  • Contributing to team planning, process improvements and departmental governance requirements.
  • Representing the branch on committees or working groups as required.
This role requires strong judgement, excellent communication skills and the ability to work with integrity and accountability in a fast‑paced environment.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Experience working with information release, FOI processes or similar regulatory frameworks.
  • Understanding of the Freedom of Information Act 1992, confidentiality, privacy and information management principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to assess information and identify risks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to structure clear messages and liaise professionally at all levels.
  • Proven ability to work to deadlines, manage competing priorities and adapt to changing requirements.
  • A collaborative approach, with the ability to build effective working relationships and contribute positively to team outcomes.
  • High levels of personal integrity, attention to detail and accountability.
