Your new role
Lead a high‑performing Waste Operations unit delivering essential services that keep our city clean, safe and well‑maintained. This role oversees a broad portfolio including road and pavement sweeping, shop cleaning, drainage maintenance, waste response programs, litter and illegal dumping removal, trolley and charity bin impoundment, and graffiti removal. You’ll ensure services are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with legislation, best practice and organisational standards.
- Lead, develop and motivate a multi‑disciplinary waste operations team, fostering a strong safety and performance culture.
- Oversee recruitment, induction, training and performance management across the unit.
- Manage day‑to‑day delivery of waste and cleaning services, ensuring compliance with service levels, legislation and industry standards.
- Identify and mitigate operational risks, and maintain up‑to‑date procedures, work method statements and risk assessments.
- Drive continuous improvement through data analysis, industry insights and process optimisation.
- Support strategic waste initiatives, including delivery of actions from waste and resource recovery strategies and litter/illegal dumping programs.
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring high‑quality customer service and timely issue resolution.
- Prepare clear reports, advice and documentation to support operational planning, performance monitoring and decision‑making.
- Manage budgets, procurement activities, contracts and financial reporting for the Waste Operations unit.
What you'll need to succeed
- Tertiary qualifications in engineering, environmental science, management or a related discipline, with relevant field experience.
- Proven leadership experience managing diverse operational teams, ideally within waste, resource recovery or local government environments.
- Strong understanding of Occupational Health and Safety requirements in operational settings.
- Knowledge of contemporary waste management and resource recovery practices, including environmental compliance.
- Strong analytical and decision‑making skills, with experience developing strategies, policies, plans and operational systems.
