Our client is the Australian arm of an international US-headquartered consultancy which, in Australia, specialises in Environmental Services, and is seeking an experienced and highly respected Market Lead – Energy to drive strategic growth, deepen client partnerships, and increase our presence across the Australian energy sector – notably onshore Oil & Gas exploration. This is a pivotal, client-facing leadership role for a recognised industry professional who combines commercial acumen with technical excellence and a passion for delivering outstanding client outcomes.

Your new role
Operating in a dynamic and highly competitive environment, the Business Development Lead – Energy plays a central role in shaping our future in the energy sector, focused on end users in the Onshore Oil & Gas exploration industry. The remit of the role is to target consultancy work related to Environmental Services, which could range from environmental approvals and permitting, lifecycle environmental and regulatory advisory (exploration to decommissioning), environmental risk, spill modelling, and underwater noise assessments, regulatory engagement with government authorities, legacy asset, remediation and decommissioning support.
The core responsibility of the role is focused on Sales & Market Growth:
- Identify, pursue, and secure high-value opportunities aligned to strategic objectives in the energy sector.
- Lead and inspire a strong, ambitious sales culture focused on teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Own the full Wins lifecycle, including Client Business Plans and Capture Plans.
- Lead cross-functional teams to develop competitive, innovative proposals that showcase technical excellence and client insight.
- Align local market priorities with global objectives by leveraging international capabilities and networks.
- Manage business development budgets and ensure strict adherence to risk management processes.
Further to that, you will also be focused on Client Engagement & Relationship Management:
- Act as the primary relationship lead for major energy clients, delivering exceptional service and trusted advice.
- Leverage deep networks, reputation, and experience to grow market share within the energy sector.
What you'll need to succeed - Deep technical and commercial understanding of environmental consulting in the Oil & Gas industry, including the aforementioned service offerings in environmental approvals and permitting, lifecycle environmental and regulatory advisory (exploration to decommissioning), environmental risk, spill modelling, and underwater noise assessments, regulatory engagement with government authorities, legacy asset, remediation and decommissioning support.
- A proven track record in business development, strategic sales, and proposal leadership.
- Strong networks within major mining companies.
- The ability to influence, mentor, and lead through collaboration rather than hierarchy.
- Exceptional communication skills and a proactive, solutions-focused mindset.
- Technical expertise in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Geology, Hydrogeology
