Our client is the Australian arm of an international US-headquartered consultancy which, in Australia, specialises in Environmental Services, and is seeking an experienced and highly respected Market Lead – Mining to drive strategic growth, deepen client partnerships, and increase our presence across the Australian mining sector. This is a pivotal, client-facing leadership role for a recognised industry professional who combines commercial acumen with technical excellence and a passion for delivering outstanding client outcomes.
As a key market leader, you will connect global strategy with local market priorities, harnessing the organisation's international expertise to deliver innovative, compliant, and sustainable solutions for our clients. Your new role
Operating in a dynamic and highly competitive environment, the Business Development Lead – Mining plays a central role in shaping our future in the resources sector, targeting the major mining houses of the Australian Mining industry, targeting consultancy work related to Environmental Services, which could range from surface and groundwater management, contaminated land, toxicology & remediation projects, environmental approvals & planning and asset & mine closure planning and ESG & sustainability services.
The core responsibility of the role is focused on Sales & Market Growth:
- Identify, pursue, and secure high-value opportunities aligned to strategic objectives in the mining sector.
- Lead and inspire a strong, ambitious sales culture focused on teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Own the full Wins lifecycle, including Client Business Plans and Capture Plans.
- Lead cross-functional teams to develop competitive, innovative proposals that showcase technical excellence and client insight.
- Align local market priorities with global objectives by leveraging international capabilities and networks.
- Manage business development budgets and ensure strict adherence to risk management processes.
Further to that, you will also be focused on Client Engagement & Relationship Management:
- Act as the primary relationship lead for major mining clients, delivering exceptional service and trusted advice.
- Leverage deep networks, reputation, and experience to grow market share within the mining sector.
What you'll need to succeed
- Deep technical and commercial understanding of environmental consulting for mining, including approvals, contaminated land, and mine closure.
- A proven track record in business development, strategic sales, and proposal leadership.
- Strong networks within major mining companies.
- The ability to influence, mentor, and lead through collaboration rather than hierarchy.
- Exceptional communication skills and a proactive, solutions-focused mindset.
- Technical expertise in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Geology, Hydrogeology
