Your new role
As a Development Assessment Engineering Officer, you will play a key role in assessing development applications with a focus on drainage and flooding. You’ll liaise with internal and external stakeholders, provide technical advice, and ensure compliance with relevant planning instruments and engineering standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assess development application referrals related to drainage and flooding
- Provide administrative support to the Drainage Development Assessment team
- Liaise with developers, consultants, and internal departments to resolve issues and negotiate outcomes.
- Monitor and record incoming development application referrals
- Maintain accurate records using TechnologyOne, CM9, and GIS systems
- Contribute to the development and refinement of engineering specifications and processes
- Ensure all tasks are completed within required timeframes and service level agreements
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A degree in Civil Engineering
- Previous experience assessing development applications in a local government setting
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to resolve conflict and negotiate effectively
- A commitment to customer service and teamwork
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Experience using TechnologyOne, CM9, and GIS systems
- Excellent time management and organisational skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with high workloads
Desirable:
- Experience using the NSW Government Planning Portal
- Knowledge of Council’s DCP and the Local Government Act
