Your new role

This role leads the delivery of advanced specialist counselling and support services for individuals impacted by domestic and family violence (DFV), with a particular focus on children, young people, and their caregivers. Operating within a trauma-informed framework, the practitioner provides evidence-based therapeutic interventions and case coordination as part of a broader program aimed at acknowledging and addressing DFV and promoting real change.
Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, the practitioner contributes to the development of innovative, integrated responses in partnership with local agencies and organisations. The position requires a high level of professional expertise, leadership in practice, and a commitment to improving outcomes for families affected by DFV.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver specialist counselling and support services aligned with best practice standards.
  • Provide case coordination and therapeutic interventions under the AARDVARC program.
  • Collaborate with internal team members and external stakeholders to enhance service integration.
  • Promote safety, healing, and empowerment for children and families experiencing DFV.
  • Reports to the Team Leader for day-to-day operations.
  • Accountable to the Chief Executive Officer and the Management Committee.
  • Flexibility in working hours may be negotiated to meet operational needs.
  • Expected to work across the organisation as required.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Apply contemporary trauma-informed practices and counselling techniques to support children and families.
  • Recognise and respond to the unique experiences of children as victim-survivors of violence and abuse.
  • Support children with behavioural challenges and guide caregivers in managing trauma-related impacts.
  • Make complex decisions balancing safety, best practice, and available resources.
  • Communicate sensitive and complex information effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Provide supervision, mentoring, and debriefing to team members.
  • Develop and oversee high-quality documentation including reports, templates, and resources.
  • Use technology confidently, including Microsoft Office and case management databases.
  • Stay current with emerging evidence and trends and share insights with peers.
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders and advocate within community and business settings.
  • Demonstrate cultural capability and adapt practices to meet the needs of First Nations peoples.
  • Align personal values with organisational goals and foster purpose-driven work.
  • Maintain composure and a positive, resourceful approach under pressure, and have strong emotional intelligence.
  • QLD Driving Licence.
  • Valid Working with Children Check (Blue Card).
  • National Police Check (provided by the organisation).
  • Degree level qualification in relevant Human Services discipline, or 5 years experience in a similar field.
  • Hold a minimum of 3 years professional experience.
