Senior Management Accountant

Temporary Senior Management Accountant role with a State Government Department based north of Perths CBD.

The Senior Management Accountant plays a pivotal role in supporting the financial strategy, planning, and performance of the department. This position ensures robust financial management, compliance with government policies, and contributes to strategic decision-making through high-quality financial analysis and reporting. This role is a temporary contract up until December, but has the possibility of going further.

Your new role

  • Budgeting & Forecasting
    • Develop and coordinate annual and mid-year budget submissions.
    • Prepare budget papers and estimate hearing files.
    • Collaborate with business units to produce accurate full-year forecasts.
    • Review and update Tariffs, Fees, and Charges in line with Treasury guidelines.

  • Financial Analysis & Reporting
    • Analyse complex financial data to produce monthly performance reports.
    • Provide insights and recommendations to senior leadership.
    • Monitor financial performance against KPIs and strategic objectives.

  • Strategic Financial Planning
    • Coordinate Strategic Asset Management Plans (SAMP).
    • Support long-term financial planning and capital investment strategies.
    • Liaise with Treasury and other government bodies on budget matters.

  • Policy & Compliance
    • Ensure compliance with State Government financial policies and directives.
    • Assist in developing and reviewing financial policies and procedures.
    • Maintain accurate records in Treasury’s Strategic Information Management System (SIMS).

  • Business Partnering
    • Provide value-added financial advice to internal stakeholders.
    • Support business improvement initiatives and change management projects.
    • Represent the finance team in cross-functional working groups.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Demonstrated experience in management accounting and financial management within a medium to large organisation.
  • Strong understanding of accrual-based budgeting and financial reporting.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial management systems.
  • Highly developed analytical and conceptual skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • CPA or CA accreditation.
