Join a forward-thinking organisation driving sustainable growth and environmental excellence. My client is seeking an experienced Environment Manager to lead its environmental function on a fixed-term contract for 12 months.


Your new role

In this pivotal role, you will oversee day-to-day environmental operations, including contaminated land management, and contribute to strategic initiatives that shape the port’s long-term sustainability. With minimal supervision, you’ll manage key environmental activities and lead programs that deliver meaningful outcomes for the community and future generations. This is an opportunity to play a central role in the organisation journey of diversification and environmental stewardship.

Reporting to the Senior Manager Property, Environment & Planning, the Environment Manager will drive strategic environmental initiatives across the organisation. This high-impact role involves chairing cross-functional working groups, managing critical timelines, and delivering key outcomes that align with the organisation's long-term vision. With strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills, you’ll influence decision-making and foster collaboration across diverse teams.


What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in engineering, environmental science, or a related discipline
  • A strong customer-centric approach with a proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships across internal and external stakeholders
  • Hands-on experience in contaminated land and asbestos management
  • Expertise in developing and implementing environmental policies, procedures, and management systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a natural ability to build rapport and influence
  • Confidence in conveying complex information in a clear, constructive, and engaging manner
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and manage diverse stakeholder interests
  • High attention to detail, with strong organisational skills and self-motivation
  • Experience managing consultants and delivering environmental projects
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and experience engaging with government agencies
  • A proactive mindset with a methodical and thorough approach to work
