Your new role

As a Staff Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in leading the development of innovative cloud-based data and analytics platforms. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Driving Solution Design & Technical Excellence: Lead the architecture and development of scalable platforms, ensuring high standards in design and implementation.
  • Mentoring & Technical Leadership: Provide guidance and mentorship to engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence while embedding robust cybersecurity and risk management practices.
  • Optimising Data Workflows: Spearhead the integration and optimisation of data workflows, including ETL processes, data pipelines, and real-time streaming solutions.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate closely with stakeholders to translate business requirements into effective technical designs, promoting continuous improvement and inclusive teamwork.

What you'll need to succeed

To thrive in this role, you’ll bring a strong blend of technical expertise, leadership, and a passion for building secure, scalable data solutions. Key requirements include:
  • Solution Design Excellence: Proven ability to design high-quality solutions that balance security, performance, availability, and maintainability—particularly within AWS environments.
  • Cloud Expertise: Hands-on experience implementing data solutions using AWS services such as Amazon S3, AWS Lambda, Amazon EMR, OpenSearch, Step Functions, CloudWatch Events, and more.
  • Data Engineering Skills: Proficiency in building data processing frameworks using EMR and Spark (Scala).
  • Software Development Lifecycle Mastery: Deep understanding of modern SDLC practices, including CI/CD, testing, and agile methodologies.
  • Programming Proficiency: Skilled in at least one programming language, whether object-oriented or functional.
  • Documentation & Design: Comfortable creating technical documentation and design artefacts for developers, cybersecurity reviews, and other stakeholders.
  • Mentorship & Collaboration: Experience mentoring and coaching engineers, fostering a collaborative and inclusive team culture.
  • Broad AWS Knowledge: Familiarity with a wide range of AWS services, including analytics, integration, databases, and machine learning.
  • Certification: Must hold at least one AWS Associate-level certification.
