The Opportunity
Our client is a leading international law firm with a highly ranked Intellectual Property practice in Australia. They are seeking a lawyer with 1–5 years PQE to join their Sydney CBD office. They have over 1500+ lawyers globally and have a strong reputation for IP law across all of their offices (APAC, Europe, Middle East). You will report to market-leading IP Partners and collaborate closely across the firm’s broader IP and commercial teams. The practice has expertise in patents, trademarks, copyright, and other forms of IP rights, giving them the full breadth of IP offering.
The Role
Lead and support patent litigation matters, including validity and infringement proceedings
Advise on contentious IP disputes and enforcement strategies across patents, trademarks, copyright and confidential information
Draft court documents, expert evidence summaries and strategic position papers for domestic and cross-border disputes
Collaborate with in-house and external counsel to deliver commercially focused outcomes
Build and maintain relationships with a diverse portfolio of local and international clients, from emerging technology ventures to global corporates
Conduct detailed legal research and analysis on complex technical issues, applying your industry knowledge to practical solutions
Contribute to team knowledge-sharing, mentoring junior lawyers and supporting practice development initiatives
What you'll need to succeed
1-5 years PQE in intellectual property law at a top-tier or specialist firm, with hands-on experience in patent litigation
Strong academic background and demonstrable technical aptitude (science degree highly regarded)
Proven track record advising on complex litigation and advisory IP work in a client-facing capacity
Exceptional attention to detail, strong drafting skills and the ability to distil technical issues into clear legal advice
Commercial mindset with the ability to align legal strategy to clients’ business objectives
Excellent interpersonal and project-management skills, with a commitment to teamwork and professional growth
