Primary Purpose of the Position
The Internal Budgets and Reporting Officer plays a key role in supporting financial planning and reporting functions. This position involves working within a small, high-performing team to provide quality financial advice, develop reporting tools, and contribute to budget planning and analysis. The role requires sound judgement, strong analytical skills, and the ability to communicate financial insights effectively to senior stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Accountability
- Assist in developing and delivering accurate end-of-month finance reports for senior leadership and governance committees.
- Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders to understand divisional operations and provide meaningful financial analysis.
- Support the annual internal budget cycle, including: Preparing budget templates and guidance materials, Ensuring accurate and timely upload of budget data into internal systems, Maintaining the Chat of Accounts and Assisting with budget reviews and updates.
Management Diversity and Span
- Collaborate with finance partners to understand divisional needs and provide whole-of-organisation financial insights.
- Build team capability through coaching, knowledge sharing, and documentation of budgeting frameworks.
Job Context and Environment
- Apply financial expertise to deliver high-quality budget and financial modelling in a dynamic environment.
- Review and improve internal financial frameworks and tools.
- Lead enhancements to financial reporting systems and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Independence and Decision-Making
- Operate with a high level of independence under broad direction.
- Coordinate complex budget inputs and provide recommendations for decision-making.
- Support financial and management accounting activities and system improvements.
Stakeholder Management
- Engage with stakeholders to identify opportunities and facilitate collaboration.
- Communicate complex financial information clearly and effectively, tailored to various audiences.
Essential Requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a national police check.
- Australian Citizenship.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- CPA, CA or equivalent accounting qualification.
- Strong knowledge and experience in government budgeting and reporting.
- Proficiency in finance systems such as CBMS, SAP, TM1, and advanced Excel skills.
