Senior Data Engineer

One Senior Data Engineer position with a Government Department for an initial 12-month + 2 x 12 months

Your new company

You will be working with a Government Department as a Lead Data Engineer in the Data and Analytics Team.

This branch is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining robust data pipelines and infrastructure to support enterprise-wide reporting, analytics, and data governance initiatives. The ideal candidate will have experience with cloud-based data platforms, strong ETL development skills, and a passion for data quality and transparency.

Your new role

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be responsible for design, development and unit testing activities across several data movement, data transformation, and data visualisation processes within the Department.

The data movement and transformation processes focus on the preparation of data for use in decision-making processes across the department, utilising modern cloud technology (Azure) to enable operational analytics use cases.

Responsibilities include:
  • Designing, building and testing various Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) and Extract, Load, Transform (ELT) processes on the department’s Azure data and analytics platform.
  • Designing, building and testing data storage solutions to meet current and emerging needs.
  • Utilising expert-level knowledge of best practices to uplift capability maturity and governance practices.

What you'll need to succeed

To be considered, you will need:

  • Experience working with Azure Data Factory and Databricks
  • Distributed computing engines (Spark), Graph Databases & Azure SQL
  • Designing, building, and maintaining databases and data warehouses to store and organise data effectively
  • Demonstrated experience developing ETL/ELT processes for complex and/or large data movement, transformation and/or visualisations

You must be an Australian citizen and will possess or be willing to go through the process to obtain and maintain a (Baseline) personnel security clearance.

In return, you will secure a competitive hourly rate with an initial 12-month contract with 2 x 12-month extension options.
