Hays is the supplier of choice for Federal, State and Local Government organisations. We are partnering with a Local Government organisation in Brisbane to recruit a Commercial Officer for a potential 16-month contract.

Your new role

Our client is one of the largest local councils in Australia. They are seeking a Commercial Officer. In this temporary assignment you will:
  • Provide advice and guidance to vendors on issues and performance, including providing input to support procurement value for money outcomes
  • Oversee and monitor vendor progress payment processes
  • Work with finance team to ensure accurate budgeting, forecasting and non-labour actuals
  • Provide expert commercial advice in the development of good supplier relationships and improvement strategies to assure vendor performance in line with business and contract expectations
  • Be the focus point for the procurement office to ensure compliance with procurement policies. Proactive contract renewals, supplier invoice reviews and reporting on KPI’s
  • Key escalation point for vendor-related issues to quickly identify the right stakeholders during a problem
  • Influence of key program and business stakeholders through positive relationships to build and promote good procurement practices
  • Contribute to the development of best-in-class vendor performance management practices including reports, dashboards and processes

What you'll need to succeed

To excel in this role, you should have:
  • Demonstrated experience achieving weekly and monthly core deliverables
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in vendor performance management, with a specific focus on technology vendors
  • Expertise in understanding project methodology and contract management dependencies
  • Experience in resolving complex vendor issues in an efficient method, ensuring an optimum outcome is achieved
  • High level of communication skills to be able to articulate timelines, risks, budgets, and issues to stakeholders
  • Working understanding of GITC and QITC frameworks
  • Experience managing a team virtually and in person
