Hays is delighted to be partnering with The City of Melton to recruit for the newly created role of Risk & Compliance Manager. This position is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining robust risk management frameworks, ensuring the business meets regulatory obligations and operates within risk appetite. This role will require collaboration across departments to identify areas of risk, recommend actionable solutions, and lead a best-practice approach to enterprise risk management.
Your new role
As our Risk and Compliance Manager, you’ll be at the forefront of risk strategy and compliance—helping guide a council that’s embracing innovation and growth. You’ll work closely with key internal stakeholders to provide expert advice, maintain trust, and ensure we meet our regulatory obligations while staying ahead of emerging risks.
- Develop and maintain risk registers, compliance plans, and reporting systems.
- Monitor regulatory developments and translate them into practical business processes.
- Conduct internal audits and facilitate external regulatory inspections.
- Provide expert risk and compliance advice to internal stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain Council’s Risk Framework to embed a proactive risk culture.
- Provide training and support to staff to enhance risk awareness and accountability.
- Manage compliance systems and reporting for the Executive, Council and Audit & Risk Committee.
- Maintain a solid understanding of the external regulatory environment and applicable standards.
- Manage Council’s insurance coverage and associated claims.
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in your application, you will need:
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Able to easily identify risk and compliance issues and find actionable solutions to complex issues.
- Experience leading a team and delivering end-to-end projects.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop and present strategic ideas and concepts in a clear way.
- Extensive experience in the development and implementation of risk and compliance registers.
- Extensive experience utilising governance frameworks, risk management practices, and internal control principles.
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field and/or professional certifications are highly regarded. Equivalent practical experience in risk will also be considered.
