Your new role
As the Director, Medicines Safety and Quality and Infection Prevention and Control, you will lead a high-impact portfolio encompassing antimicrobial resistance surveillance, safe use of medicines, and infection prevention strategies. Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, you’ll provide strategic leadership across nationally significant programs, including the AURA Project, the Medicines Safety and Quality Program, and the Infection Prevention and Control Program. You’ll manage a skilled team, oversee complex projects, and engage with key stakeholders to deliver on the organisation’s work plan and national health priorities.
Leading a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-impact projects that support safer clinical practices across Australia.
Overseeing national initiatives like the National Hand Hygiene Initiative and stewardship of standardised tools for prescribing and administering medicines.
Engaging with senior stakeholders across government, health services, and academia to shape policy and drive implementation.
Providing strategic advice to the Chief Medical Officer and executive leadership, ensuring alignment with national health priorities.
Managing complex projects—from planning and budgeting to risk management and reporting—while maintaining a sharp focus on outcomes.
Representing the organisation in national forums, working groups, and intergovernmental committees, often acting as a key spokesperson on safety and quality matters.
Collaborating across internal teams to ensure program integration and strategic coherence.
This is a leadership role that blends policy, strategy, and operational delivery in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.
What you'll need to succeed To thrive in this role, you will bring:
Extensive senior-level experience in healthcare or the public sector, with a strong background in clinical practice, policy development, and program management.
Deep understanding of the Australian healthcare system and national safety and quality frameworks.
Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Proven ability to manage complex projects, budgets, and teams with strategic foresight and operational excellence.
Relevant tertiary qualifications and a track record of delivering results in a high-profile, multi-stakeholder environment.
What you'll get in return A competitive salary package ranging from $144,162 to $170,679 plus 15.4% superannuation.
