Our client is one of Australia’s key players within the coal mining industry. With operations spanning across New South Wales, Queensland, and Western Australia, they are a key player in the sector and growing significantly YOY. Due to internal movements, they are now seeking an experienced Site Accountant with the ambition to take over a hands-on and business-partnering-focused role at their mine operations in regional Queensland. They do have permanent opportunities available, and ideally this person will join on a temp to perm agreement.
Your new role
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and detail-oriented Site Accountant to support commercial functions, focusing on financial reporting, budgeting, compliance, and continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing month-end and year-end financial reports, journal entries, and GL reconciliations
- Managing fixed asset records and supporting asset audits
- Overseeing capital, asset management, compliance, and government returns
- Conducting cost analysis and facilitating cost review meetings
- Ensuring adherence to internal controls and regulatory standards
- Assisting with budgeting and forecasting processes
- Liaising with internal departments and external stakeholders
- Identifying and resolving financial discrepancies
- Supporting ad-hoc finance and administrative tasks
What you'll need to succeed
To thrive in this role, you’ll need a strong foundation in accounting, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment.
Required qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience (preferably in the mining sector)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with SAP is advantageous
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Self-motivated with a proactive approach to problem-solving
- High standards of integrity and professionalism
- Adaptability and willingness to learn
- Ability to build effective relationships across teams
