Data Analyst needed to Join a Federal Government Dept. Initial 12-Month Contract + 2× Extensions

Your new company

This Section of the Federal Government Department is responsible for providing data reporting and analytical products and services to support program and policy planning and evaluation across the division. The team works closely with States/territories and program areas to deliver on the data and evaluation commitments outlined in the National Agreement and associated Bilateral Schedules.

Your new role

This role involves supporting the development and management of data projects by collaborating with team members and various stakeholders. It includes analysing and interpreting information from multiple sources to help shape future policy or program directions. The position also covers general tasks such as preparing documents and briefs, sharing knowledge with colleagues, and carrying out other responsibilities consistent with the APS 6 classification.

What you'll need to succeed

Key Criteria

  • The ability to prepare and analyse data, using statistical methods, and interpret the outcome to form well-reasoned and defensible conclusions.
  • Ability to work both independently and productively as part of a team, and to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent writing skills, including the ability to translate findings from data analysis into written reports or oral presentations that may be delivered to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to develop and maintain effective internal and external working relationships.
  • Experience with or a strong interest in statistical analysis concepts and techniques.
  • Experience in the fields of health, aged care, or disability data.
  • Demonstrated capability in line with the APS Integrated Leadership System (ILS) and Work Level Standards at the APS 6 level.

    You must be willing to obtain or hold an active Baseline Security Clearance.

Desirable Criteria

  • Proficiency in a programming language like SQL, R and Python or ability to quickly gain proficiency in programming languages.
  • Proficiency in visualisation tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar
