Hays has partnered with an influential public sector body responsible for playing a critical role in statewide governance and public engagement.

Your new role
As the Tech Lead, you will steer the technical delivery of a strategic API modernisation program. Your responsibilities will span architectural leadership, quality oversight, and stakeholder engagement. You’ll set the technical direction for the initiative, oversee the work of senior developers, and ensure all API solutions are delivered to the highest standards of performance, security, and maintainability. You’ll act as the key technical advisor to both delivery teams and senior stakeholders, bridging communication between technical outputs and business goals. In addition to architectural and governance oversight, you will contribute to hands-on development and mentor team members throughout the engagement.

What you'll need to succeed
  • Deep expertise in designing and delivering RESTful APIs in cloud-native environments
  • Comprehensive understanding of authentication protocols (OAuth2, JWT) and API versioning
  • Familiarity with API management platforms such as Azure API Management, Apigee, Kong, or AWS API Gateway
  • Proficiency in .NET Core, with exposure to Python, Java or Node.js
  • Experience with containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines using tools like GitHub Actions, GitLab CI or Azure DevOps
  • Skilled in Swagger/OpenAPI, Postman, and API documentation frameworks such as Stoplight
  • Exposure to Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation) and logging/monitoring tools like Datadog, ELK, or Prometheus
  • Strong leadership background in delivering complex technical programs in multi-stakeholder environments
  • Clear and confident communication style with the ability to influence and engage senior-level audiences
