This company is a mining resources enterprise with operations in both Australia and South Africa, primarily focused on the coal sector. Its Australian operations are anchored by a major thermal coal mine in Queensland, which exports over 2.2 million tonnes annually. The company also has several exploration and development projects across Queensland, including in the Bowen and Galilee Basins.
Your new role
Lead mining crews to safely execute daily and weekly mine plans
Provide statutory Open Cut Examiner (OCE) coverage and conduct inspections
Drive coal recovery, control dilution, and meet quality targets
Collaborate with Maintenance to maximise equipment availability and resolve defects
Promote a safety-first culture through audits, interactions, and incident support
Ensure accurate reporting of production data, equipment use, and hazards
Oversee dewatering operations and support site drainage planning
Monitor rehabilitation and ensure environmental compliance
Coach and mentor operators and frontline leaders to build capability
Manage crew attendance, performance, and behaviour
Act as liaison between crews and leadership to align strategy and execution
Collaborate across departments to support integrated site planning
What you'll need to succeed
QLD Open Cut Examiner (OCE) Certificate of Competency (mandatory)
Cert IV in Surface Extraction Operations (or equivalent)
Current Standard 11, First Aid/CPR, and Coal Board Medical
5+ years in open-cut coal mining, including 3+ years in a supervisory role
Strong understanding of mining equipment, production, and compliance
Proven leadership in crew management and operational delivery
Confident using digital tools for reporting and planning
Resilient, inclusive, and strategic with strong communication skills
High personal drive and commitment to team success
Strong focus on safety, environment, community, and collaboration
