We’re seeking a skilled Senior
DevOps Engineer to join a high-impact Federal Government team responsible for critical infrastructure tools and services. In this role, you’ll design, build, and support cloud and data platforms that underpin national-scale ICT services. You’ll work under broad directions, applying your expertise in AWS, automation, and DevOps practices to deliver secure, scalable solutions. Your new role
As a DevOps Engineer, you’ll operate under broad directions to deliver complex, high-impact solutions. You’ll be a key player in designing, building, and supporting cloud and data infrastructure, while also driving DevOps best practices across the department. You’ll work closely with stakeholders, full-stack developers, and business consumers to ensure our platforms are scalable, secure, and aligned with business goals.
- Design, build, deploy, and support cloud and data infrastructure (primarily AWS)
- Prioritise and manage work items in a dynamic queue
- Ensure integration solutions follow best practices
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to deliver outcomes
- Contribute to agile project teams and define technical requirements
- Represent the agency in technical forums and stakeholder engagements
What you'll need to succeed
- Deep hands-on experience with AWS infrastructure and services
- Proven expertise in DevOps tools like GitLab, Artifactory, and Jira
- Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)
- Strong grasp of version control (Git) and agile methodologies
- Ability to write moderately complex code in Python, JavaScript, or Golang
- Experience with containerisation and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Database deployment/admin experience (Postgres, MySQL)
- Familiarity with Azure infrastructure
- Knowledge of Networking, Cloudflare, and HashiCorp Vault
- Experience managing PKI infrastructure
Location & EligibilityThis role is open to candidates based in any Australian state or territory
(ACT, NSW, NT, QLD, SA, TAS, VIC, WA). Applicants must reside in Australia and be available to attend their local departmental office at least two days per week. While Canberra, ACT is preferred, other locations will be considered.

hold a minimum NV1 security clearance. Candidates without the required clearance will not be considered.
