Your new role

We are seeking an experienced Protection and Control Engineer to join our Network Services team. This role is pivotal in providing engineering expertise and leadership, focusing on the scoping, design, and estimation of substation projects for both internal and external clients.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the Secondary Design team, ensuring technical development and adherence to policies and procedures for distribution, sub-transmission, and transmission assets.
  • Oversee the design and estimation processes for substation projects, ensuring they meet specific target dates and contribute to positive financial outcomes.
  • Implement and maintain best practices in engineering design and project management.

What you'll need to succeed

Design within AutoCAD and deliver solutions to complex problems or large projects, applying engineering principles to create better outcomes that meet Network Services, its clients, and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.

  • Expert design and compliance knowledge of protection and control systems in the electrical distribution and transmission networks in accordance with customer and Australian Standards.
  • Applied skills in the integration of renewable power generation into electricity grids.
  • Detailed knowledge of new protection and control technologies such as the implementation of IEC61850 & SCADA and techniques based on on-the-job experience.
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of regulatory requirements, OH&S Act, ‘Safety in Design’ guidelines, standards and codes.
  • Expert knowledge of the design process, and the design activities undertaken within substation design.
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of complex numbers and symmetrical components for fault current analysis by hand (i.e. Excel) and computer software packages (e.g. DigSilent PowerFactory/PSSE/Sincal).
  • Demonstrated experience in protection setting calculations for different protection schemes used in zone substations and distribution networks.
  • Extensive experience in specifying and configuring protection relays from a range of major suppliers.
  • Excellent communication and mentoring skills.
  • Strong understanding of best practice in innovation and value improvement for the adoption of new technologies
  • Technical lead in a project delivery environment.
