Assistant Accountant

Your new company

You will be joining a well-known, complex, public sector business that is leading the way with its technology and systems. This large and multi-faceted organisation is renowned for championing their high performers, and offering their staff a trusting and flexible culture. You will be based in modern offices close to Central Station, and be given the opportunity to work from home for 3 days.


Your new role

You will be joining a team of 12 in a larger finance team of nearly 30 members, and will be reporting to an enthusiastic and energetic leader, who has high expectations and gets the best from their team by providing a fun, dynamic and collaborative culture. There are multiple positions that have become available, working on the following:
  • Preparation of journals including accruals and prepayments
  • Reconciliation of complex accounts
  • Gathering reports for colleagues and managers
  • Liaising with staff across the business to get the best outcomes
  • Systems accounting support
  • Proactively reviewing processes to suggest improvements and efficiencies
  • Supporting the wider team with transactional finance tasks
  • Contributing to team discussion and ideas
  • Using CoPilot, SmartView, PeopleSoft, Excel on a daily basis


What you'll need to succeed

This is a large and dynamic team, so you will need a positive and proactive attitude, and excellent communication skills to manage your stakeholders. You should have the following experience:
  • At least 3 years' experience in an Assistant Accountant role
  • Strong knowledge of general debits and credits
  • High-level Excel skills, ideally some understanding of Macros, or the inclination to learn this
  • Engaging personality and driven to learn/grow
Desirable skills/experience include:
  • CPA/CA or working towards
  • Experience in a large, complex government, higher education or public sector business
  • Involvement in process improvement
  • The hiring manager is keen to find the right person - you must be proactive, motivated and inquisitive. They can train some of the technical aspects if you show these traits!

What you'll get in return

This is an initial 6-month duration, but has a very strong opportunity to go longer term. You will be based near to Central Station and have the opportunity to work from home 3 days per week.
