Our public sector client is seeking a Legal & Privacy Officer to join their team on a permanent full-time basis. The role will be working 5 days per week/ 7.5 hours per day. This position is located within Perth’s Eastern suburbs near to public transport and parking. The role will be working in a medium-sized and supportive team.
Reporting to the General Counsel, this role focusses on enhancing the organisation's governance and legal risk processes, providing legal document support, and assisting business units across the organisation. It involves helping the General Counsel address complex compliance issues, managing legislative frameworks, and maintaining compliance records. Responsibilities also include conducting legal research, communicating compliance guidance, and assisting with contract terms and procurement processes. Additionally, the role involves maintaining a database of legal decisions and preparing reports on legal service management.
Your new role
Your responsibilities will consist of:
Enhance the organisation's governance and legal risk processes
Support the preparation, review, and quality assurance of legal documents
Assist business units across the organisation with legal matters
Help the General Counsel address complex legal and compliance issues
Manage the legislative compliance framework, including compliance registers and reporting
Conduct research on compliance issues and legislative breaches
Develop and refine the organisation's PRIS policies and framework
Deliver privacy training to enhance staff understanding of information protection and sharing
Collaborate with Contracts and Procurement on contract terms and public tendering processes
Maintain a database of legal decisions and advice relevant to the organisation
Prepare reports for the General Counsel on legal service management
What you'll need to succeed
Expertise in administrative, planning, commercial, property, privacy, and compliance law, along with policymaking and legislative processes
Skilled in researching, reviewing, and monitoring legal frameworks
Drafting agreements, legal precedent documents, and correspondence as required
Providing litigation, dispute resolution, and investigation support
Strong knowledge of PRIS legislation, data protection principles, and applicable records management laws
Coordinating data breach response plans, investigations, and corrective actions
Managing privacy-related complaints and compliance programs
Strong stakeholder relationship-building skills
Skilled in conflict resolution, negotiation, and continuous improvement
Strong prioritisation skills and ability to manage multiple projects
