Hays Executive - January 2010
Hotspots
Business Analysts and Project Managers are needed in the public sector, while in the private sector, finance transformation specialists are sought. This is driven by a focus on process improvement and organisations sorting their back office in preparation for future growth.
In a localised trend, Project Co-ordinators are needed in Queensland following the merger of various State Government Departments as well as the creation of new Water Entities. Large transition teams are being formed to plan, establish and co-ordinate these organisations.
The coming quarter
This market should experience a slight increase in the number of employers recruiting from late January in line with continued economic growth.
In 2009 spending was tightly controlled and recruiting took place only when absolutely necessary. In 2010 however, recruitment will again be on the agenda, particularly as companies return to a growth-focused model.
Employer trends
As 2010 progresses, we expect employers to focus on retention, particularly as the market continues to improve and opportunities increase.
Candidate trends
Many executive candidates passively kept in touch with the market in 2009. They are now more willing to express interest in roles as broader confidence returns.
