Hays Facilities Management - July 2008

Hotspots

Facilities managers with a trade background, especially with mechanical, electrical or HVAC trades, are the prime hotspot of demand. A large number of FM employers require electrical or HVAC knowledge since this is the biggest problem area for any commercial building. Also in demand are project managers to upgrade B-grade buildings to compete with brand new office buildings.

Candidate trends

Future hiring intentions are positive, with employers recruiting over the coming quarter and the recruitment market clearly remaining buoyant.

Executive recruitment

There has been some movement recently at the executive level, and we expect this to continue. There has been an increase in interest from executive candidates from the UK, however most of these candidates have not researched the market or looked into relocation issues to any extent.

Salaries

The 2008 Hays Salary Survey, detailing typical salaries across Australia and New Zealand, has been released. The survey includes 9 facilities management roles in 11 locations and is available from www.hays.com.au/salary

Candidate trends

Candidates are seeking the security of longer-term tenure with an employer, preferring to remain where they are at present to assess the market and determine if any market changes are likely to occur.
