Hays Facilities Management - October 2007
Hotspots
High quality and skilled building managers are a hotspot within the commercial market, in light of an increase in tenant demands and quality of service provided. In addition, an increase in companies bringing the facilities management function in-house, and the need to ensure all space, services and assets are managed and maintained effectively and efficiently has created a hotspot for in-house corporate services and corporate FM candidates.
The coming quarter
All indications point towards an increase in both temporary and permanent staff levels, particularly for corporate services and entry-level facilities managers. While employers traditionally would not consider temporary candidates, they are now open to recruiting temporary staff. Employers have also found the temporary-to-permanent recruitment option a very effective method of recruitment.
Executive recruitment
Strategic operations managers are required and with the FM market growing, executive requirements will continue. In a regional trend Western Australia's executive market has become active with business development, senior project managers and integration managers required.
Salaries
While some main salary increases occurred in Brisbane/Gold Coast, North Queensland, Adelaide and Canberra, many employers continue to resist salary pressures. Yet with commercial space becoming increasingly tight and demand for quality facilities management services increasing, salary pressure is expected.

Candidate trends
Candidates with a trade background continue to be very well received by employers for building manager and portfolio FM roles. It is however becoming more preferable for PM and FM certificates to be obtained.
